Amidst the violent fallout of terror in the 20th century, a cello becomes a bridge between two spheres in perpetual conflict. The strength and conviction of a lone musician transcends political barriers, impossible decisions, and forced exile, all in devotion to the greater mission of culture. SPECTRE | DREAM
immersive installation
In the overlooked streets of Detroit’s far east side, a repurposed church breathes life into a dialogue between classical form and contemporary art. For an instant, animated geometries of REVOK’s buzzing tape loops collide with the violin sonatas of Brahms, bringing about an energetic counterpoint of opposites before dissolving amidst spectre and dream. THE LAST LEAF
short film
In a world that has lost all color, a single leaf faithfully holds on. There are no people, only a drone of sound amidst wandering thoughts without plot or narrative. A wind, a drop of water, the soft crackle of a phonograph - all just shadows of an immense silence composed of nothing more than unspoken words. This silence is foreign to music. Nevertheless, it is upon this silence that music gently leans. [read more]
LEADERSHIP
Detroit Sessions Founder Ivan Moshchuk grew up in the metro Detroit area, where he began music and piano studies. Following his reception of a Gilmore Young Artist Award in 2010, his career as a concert pianist has taken him to major cities across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Ivan holds diplomas from two of the world’s oldest musical institutions, the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. [read more]
